WASHINGTON – Perhaps the system does work, because the Washington MH Association managed to defeat several adverse bills like one which mandated a three year notice of community closure and a bill which would have allowed a city to mandate sewer connection of communities on functioning septic systems and also defeat of a mandatory right of first refusal for tenants and housing authorities that would have chilled and clouded any attempts to sell a community. ARIZONA – In the regulatory arena, AHA has worked closely with the Office of Manufactured Housing to ensure that Arizona’s dispute resolution program would be approved by HUD and with ADOT to convert nearly all transportation permits to an online system. Work with the Department of Revenue on both transaction privilege and property tax reform is progressing.
The topic of community closures has been receiving increased press attention. The Idaho Statesman has run several articles on community closures. KTVB, the Boise NBC affiliate, recently ran a story titled "Many Mobile Home Owners Could Soon Be Homeless." The opening line provides a clear indication of the slant they took on the issue: "Hundreds of Treasure Valley residents are facing what they call a housing crisis - not one involving lenders and foreclosures, rather land being sold out from underneath their manufactured homes."
The 2008 Annual Convention is right around the corner. The convention dates are scheduled for May 7-8, 2008. Over a hundred of the associations’ most active members are headed to Reno, Nevada for the year’s most important manufactured and modular home industry event. Make plans to join us!
